How can I fix Microsoft Word to get it to delete highlighted sections?

Mollio asked:

On Microsoft Word I cannot highlight anything and hit backspace to delete it. When I hit backspace it just goes back to the beginning of the highlighted section and there are no changes; how do I fix this?

If you’re talking about text that’s not the way. Hilite it and press Delete or hilite, right clk and clk delete. If you want to use the cursor don’t hilite just put cursor at end of text to delete and backspace ’till it’s gone.

In Word 2003 or earlier, click on Tools | Options | Edit tab | check the “Typing replaces selection” box | OK.

In Word 2007, click on Office Button | Word Options | Advanced | in the “Editing options” group, check the “Typing replaces selected text” box | OK.

This is a Word option setting. Here’s how to fix it:

Word versions prior to Word 2007:

1.Click on the Tools->Options menu item.
    2.Click the Edit tab.
3.Under Editing Options, check the check box next to “Typing replaces selection”.
    4.Click OK.

    In Word 2007:

1.Click the Office button in the upper-left corner.
    2.Click the Word Options button.
    3.Click the Advanced tab.
4.Under Editing, check the check box next to “Typing replaces selected text”.
    5.Click OK.

    That should do it.
