How do I stop Microsoft Word 2,007 from not deleting a block of text I highlight?

linkdude212 asked:

I will highlight a block of text and hit the backspace button, instead of deleting the block of text it will simply move the cursor to the beginning of the block of text. How do I make Microsoft Word 2,007 delete things properly?

try using the Delete key. Then make sure that the drivers for your keyboard are up to date.

Can only suggest what works for me when I have similar probs with my word processing program. If you have saved your document already, close it down then open it up again. If you do this then your original settings will probably work again.

Are you on a PC? Firstly check another application like Notepad (from your accessories menu) and see if the problem is only with Word. If it is fine there then check another Office application such as Excel.

If you have problems in all of these applications, it sounds like your keyboard has been configured incorrectly, either it has the wrong regional settings or you someone has remapped the keys. Check your regional settings from the Control Panel and make sure your keyboard is also using the correct format.

If the problem only happens with Office or Word then I would potentially advise a reboot.

If all else fails and you have a Delete button I would use that!

In Word 2007, click on Office Button | Word Options | Advanced | check the “Typing replaces selected text” box | OK.

This is a Word option setting. Here’s how to fix it:

1.Click the Office button in the upper-left corner.
    2.Click the Word Options button.
    3.Click the Advanced tab.
4.Under Editing, check the check box next to “Typing replaces selected text”.
    5.Click OK.

    That should do it.

Just use the “Delete” key instead.
